Simple, genuine, and real to herself; Hend Reda has succeeded in touching the hearts of her audience, both in Radio and TV. High-spirited and full of life, she knows how to find pleasure in the simplest and smallest of things. In a delightful talk, Hend takes us through the journey of her career and unveils parts of her soul where we got to know more about her dreams, passion, and the things that fill her heart with happiness.
From radio to TV, how did your journey start?
It all happened very spontaneously. Ever since I was young, I was fond of everything related to arts. Between acting, music, dancing and more; these are the things I’m truly passionate about. It began with a competition. Right at that very moment in the competition, all I cared about is to win by being totally myself, and I made it. At 2009, I joined Nogoum FM and this was a major turning point in my life. I learned a lot, and the experience I gained everyday has always been priceless, needless to mention the exposure as well. Throughout this journey there have been several milestones and accomplishments that I am really proud of. I have hosted different types of shows and earned several awards, Nogoum FM has really given me the opportunity to discover things I didn’t know about myself and to unleash my full potential. Interviewing celebrities and sharing stories of icons like Hind Rostom and Mohamed Sobhy gave me a feeling of inner satisfaction and accomplishment that I can’t put into words. I also had the opportunity to attend the International Radio Festival in Milan which was a splendid experience. Later on I decided to take my experiences to new heights and that’s when I joined Alnahar. Speaking about TV and acting, I have big goals and dreams and I believe there’s more that I want to offer.
When have you felt most challenged?
Every time I go on air is a challenge. Being on air is a big responsibility, and it leaves no room for mistakes, and by the end of the day we are human beings, mistakes can happen. So to focus on being yourself and avoid mistakes, while at the same time connecting with your audience and getting them engaged on the topic presented is quite a difficult balance to maintain.
Along the journey of fame, what changed in you?
There haven’t been major changes in my character really. We pass through various phases in life, and in every phase and with the new experiences we come across, we become more mature. One thing that has always remained constant throughout the different phases of my life is keeping my identity. I stay real to who I am, I do what I do with love.
Tell us about an obstacle you faced
To be honest, I can say that I’m a bit shy and sensitive. It’s something I’ve been working on and managed to overcome, especially with the nature of my job. Being in front of the camera has helped me break that barrier of being shy.
If you can use your influence as a public figure to change or add something to our society what would it be?
In the modern age we live in, social media has an impact on many people’s lives, both positively and negatively. It is really sad to see the amount of bullying happening around us; it has become highly contagious and aggressive. If there’s anything I would love to change, it is to spread a message of empathy and compassion. I wish that people can use their influence positively to change our society to the better. People should really think well before they pass a harsh comment and to be really considerate about the harm they can inflect. I hope that people can be more kind to one another, and to support one another. Instead of bringing people down, we should bring out the best in them.
Now let’s get more personal
Your top 5 human values?
Respect, love, trust, empathy, and appreciation.
A perfect day in Hend Reda’s life; what would it be like?
The simplest things can really make my day. It is life’s little pleasures that count. Whether it is a day spent with family, the rich aroma of coffee on a beautiful day, or a smile from the heart, and of course a day at work where I get to see the outcome of the effort I’ve done.
What’s your goal in life?
I have various goals and objectives in life; a happy and loving family, a successful career, and lots of travelling. My biggest dream is to have my own show and to act in a movie.
Define happiness from your own perspective
Happiness comes from within and it doesn’t have to depend on any external conditions or factors. Happiness is being content and really satisfied with what you have. Happiness is in spreading love and care to those around you. And trust me, when you give out to people, when you try to make those around you happy, it pays back and you’ll feel happy as well.
What inspires you and keeps you going?
Music! Always is and always will be music. It gives me good energy; it fills me with strength, power, and serenity. Music is my friend.
And finally, a motto you like to live by?
There is beauty in simplicity. I believe in simplicity and that there’s something truly tremendous and beautiful in living life simply.
